South Kitsap 2, Eastlake 1

It was dog-eat-dog as the South Kitsap Wolves and the Eastlake Wolves fought it out to move up to the Final Four in the state semifinals. In the end, it was South Kitsap that walked away with the right to play Woodinville next week.

Brandon Eggers started the game and kept Kitsap scoreless for 3 innings and Ryan Focht pitched Eastlake out of a bases loaded jam with the help of a diving catch by Mike Adams to end the 4th inning. Mike Adams also combined with Adam Hicks to snuff out an attempt by Kitsap to score a runner from third in the first inning.

Eastlake scored their run in the first inning as Kyle Walther crossed home on a passed ball through the catcher. South Kitsap tied it up in the 4th inning and surged ahead in the bottom of the 6th with a run scored on a grounder down the 3rd baseline. Eastlake tried to manufacture a tying run in the last up to bat in the 7th but could not quite pull it off.

Coach D’Amico has his final post-game huddle with the 2002 Eastlake team in Heidelberg Park’s right field.
